Sadly today he has passed away at the age of 73

for those who dont know who he is, he was one of the alltime greats of rugby league who had a long distinguished career at Featherstone and Wakefield.

No-one in the game of rugby league, be it player or supporter can avoid ever knowing of this player, unfortunatly the event that he is infamous for is missing a conversion from in front of the posts, which granted Leeds an unlikely win in the Challenge cup final of 1968, he was awarded the Lance Todd trophy for the match which is the award for the "man of the match" such was his overall contribution to the game on that day, and it was just cruel luck and circumstance which brought him instant celebrity for all the wrong reasons.
But his career was a long one at the top level, he played for 13 years at featherstone rovers and then moved to Wakefield at the time when Wakefield became the Dominant team in rugby league, he played 117 games for them before eventually retiring and ending a distinguished career in 1971, having made over 500 appearances in the game.

rugby league at the time was a winter sport and it was a rare feat for a player to be able to play at the top level for as long as Don did, he entered later life as he lived throughout, fighting illness for many years untill finally laying down to rest today.

Although he was a player before my time, and i never got to see him play i would just like to pay my respects to a Legend who will always be remembered.

Don fox 1935-2008 may he rest in peace.

I was at the infamous "Watersplash Final" Dons death is another sad blow fro RL and the Wakefield area following on from the premature death of David Toplliss recently.
